August 16, 2006

Here we are at week 3.5 and Calvin is doing just fine, thank you. Generally speaking, he is a good baby. Bedtime starts about an hour, hour and a half after his 10-ish feeding and he stays down for a few hours. He's usually hungry arounf 2 a.m. and takes a smaller nighttime feeding. Come morning he's ready to go! I'd have to describe him as a night person because even though he is ready to be up and out of bed in the morning he doesn't seem to love the idea about being awake...he'll get a little grouchy.

Cal seems to like the "band" that plays on the bouncy seat and the Baby Einstein mobile over his crib...for a little while. He doesn't have too much patience for the swing yet and prefers the warm embrace of mom and dad, etc.

Scout is already absolutely fascinating to the little guy and they will stare at each other for several seconds before one of Scout's whiskers tickles or irritates the little man and he's had enough. I suspect they will be best of friends before too long (which I am sure will mean trouble to mom).

I can only speak for myself, but there are several things I'd like to mention for posterity: I would never have guessed the feeling of joy I get coming in the door after work and hearing M and Cal playing, hearing the love in M's voice and seeing Cal look up in ignorant astonishment at the whimsical musings of mama. I have heard but never would have guessed that I would crave the smell of Cal's hair, breath, skin, clothes, etc. when I am away. The feeling I have looking into his eyes, so deep...
