Growing Like A Weed!

Cal is HUGE!! At the 2 month appointment (9-25) he was a good meal or two away from 13#!! And 24-1/2" long, what happened to my tiny little man? He has also started talking (almost as much as his mom) and grinning like a fool whenever you talk or smile at him. He is growing so fast, I think I might have to start tying bricks to his footie pajams to keep him from growing so much at night! Also, he has not (contrary to what everyone told us) lost any of his hair....although the cut and color are looking more and more like dad's hairstyle than mom's. Oh yeah, and he is definitely a thumb sucker!! BIG TIME!! ...well, in two more months time we will be at the doctor's again and will see just how much (more) he's grown....I'm guessing 16# and1-2".

Five Years

Dear Calvin,

Today you are seven weeks old and today is the day we remember the terrorist attacks on the United States of America in New York, NY, Washington D. C., and in the air over Pennsylvania. You were but a twinkling in your parents eyes then...we had just moved back to Michigan and were tying our luck at life along the lakeshore. What a day that was. That was the second disaster that really caught my soul and changed my life, the first was the Challenger explosion on January 28, 1986, I was in grade school watching that launch on TV.

I have always been the "Be Prepared" type, even before my days in the Boy Scouts; I was always concerned about my future and the prosperity of my friends and family. That day, five years ago, was yet another when the collective innocence of this country was damaged and my personality was again steeled to the ideals of personal strength and preparedness and devotion to things greater than myself. You, your mom, and all that we have are my primary concern in life.

Know this, my son, God has given you the tools in your life to be someone greater than yourself. We, as your parents, are committed to helping you grow in those gifts and realize that potential. Do not sell yourself short. Remember, above all else, that God loves you and will protect you and that he has blessed you with friends and family to help you along life's way. "Be Prepared" in your heart to love and to fight for what you love and what is right, no matter what.

We love you.

A Travelin' Boy

One has to admit, the little guy is portable. This weekend we enjoyed another day with family and friends here, there, and everywhere. Moving around with him is not too bad assuming the guy is happy with his situation in the car seat. Mom and I always worry a little that the sleeping he does during the weekend days of adventure will inhibit his night time routine...thats is somewhat true, he winds up a little crankey on Monday mornings. Otherwise, he is happy and healthy. Priceless moments are those when he is awake and laying on my chest, content. Pictures are worth a thousand of my words.
